A new concept plane could deliver heavy equipment across seas without the need of a runway or port, reshaping fast logistics, search and rescue, or even disaster response missions.
With a 213-foot wingspan, the experimental plane known as Liberty Lifter, could fly very close to the ocean’s surface or up to 10,000 feet if needed, to deliver as much as 50,000 pounds of cargo.
The Liberty Lifter is in its early design phase with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and flight testing is planned to begin in 2028.
