The Poseidon’s rule over the seas is getting stronger.
The U.S. Navy recently took delivery of the first P-8A to undergo a sweeping upgrade of its avionics racks, crew stations, sensors, wiring and software.
The improvements mean the world’s premier maritime patrol aircraft will be better at finding submarines and faster at sharing that data with other ships and aircraft.
Although the P-8A looks like a conventional airliner, more than 170 of them are patrolling the world’s oceans, tracking submarines, conducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and aiding in maritime rescue and humanitarian missions when needed.
The latest upgrade is a proof point in how the fleet can continually evolve to match changing threats.
