A larger version of the MQ-25 could add new capabilities to the unmanned aerial refueling drone.
Rather than being on an aircraft carrier and operated by the U.S. Navy, this Air Force-iteration would be based on land, increasing its wingspan from 75 to 92 feet.
The longer, non-foldable wings would allow the MQ-25 to carry 40 percent more fuel, or to perform other missions, like intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, airborne early warning and potential maritime strike roles.
This design, like the carrier-based version, means the U.S. military will be able to project force further in high-threat areas.
